We celebrated the first ever Wine Tourism Day at our new tasting room at the winery. Originally started in Europe in 2009, this marked the first year of celebrating Wine Tourism Day in North America. Great Northwest Wine magazine wrote an article with more info about the day, including a picture of our new tasting room. Mark your calendar for next year, Saturday, May 10th 2014.

Tasting Room Grand Opening - April 6, 2013
We celebrated our 10th year of making wine by opening a new tasting room! The new tasting room features a wine new tasting bar, built from 100-year-old wood from the original Dumas Station building next door, crafted by Philip Keller, a local woodworker. Thank you to Zoe, of ZoePDX, our wonderful label designer and friend, for taking such wonderful pictures.

Celebrate Washington Wine Month with our 2006 - March 1, 2013
Join us in celebrating Washington Wine Month in March with a trip back in time. We are treating all guests who visit our tasting room in March to a sample of one of our best library wines: our 2006 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, which received 93 points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate.

We think this wine is an excellent example of the potential of aged Cabernet from Walla Walla, but we'll let you decide that for yourself...

Part V of the 2012 Walla Walla Valley Report, from Washington Wine Report, features our 2008 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. Scoring 4 out of 5 stars (Excellent), Sean writes "A moderately aromatic wine with high toned herbal notes along with green tea, floral notes, dark raspberries, and cherries. The palate is soft, sweet, and fruit filled with velvety tannins. 93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot. Minnick Hills Vineyard. Aged 22 months in American and French oak (80% new). 15% alcohol. 400 cases produced. Sampled at 67 degrees."

Watercolor Art Exhibit at Dumas Station - December 3, 2012
We are hosting an exhibit featuring local watercolor artist Jill Ingram through December 15th at the winery. Other pieces of art from Jill can be found in her permanent gallery with fellow artist Monica Stobie at the Weinhard Hotel in Dayton.

Doug (left) & Jay featured in Wine Spectator Magazine - November 14, 2012
Titled "Deft, complex wines from an old hand," the article goes on to say "In 2000, Jay DeWitt, a former wheat farmer who was then managing vineyards, met Doug Harvey, a retired San Francisco lawyer, on the golf course. After discovering that they were both amateur winemakers who had grown up in Walla Walla, they decided to go into business together. They leased vineyards that DeWitt was managing, including Minnick Hills, just north of the Walla Walla Airport. The vineyard is the source of their expressive and deftly handled Cabernet Sauvignons in 2007 and 2008, and contributed to a nimble Merlot in 2008." - Wine Spectator, December 15th, 2012

The write up also includes reviews for our 2008 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon and 2008 Estate Merlot, scoring 91 points each.

Bottling of our 2010 Vintage - September 23, 2012
All of our wines from 2010 are now in the bottle thanks to all of our wonderful helpers during bottling! 7 wines from the 2010 vintage in the Walla Walla Valley, making just over 1,000 cases:
  • 2010 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon (350 cases)
  • 2010 Estate Merlot (100 cases)
  • 2010 Estate Cabernet Franc (100 cases)
  • 2010 Estate Syrah (100 cases)
  • 2010 Minnick Hills Reserve (90 cases)
  • 2010 Cuvee No. 439 (80 cases)
  • 2010 Cow Catcher Red (350 cases)
Cuvee No. 439 is a new wine from us, from the Walla Walla Valley, and is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot. The name comes from the first passenger train between Dayton & Walla Walla in 1881, which opened up trade to farmers of the area, including Mr. James Dumas at Dumas Station. This wine will be released sometime next year.

New Tasting Room Open - September 22, 2012
We just put one of the final touches on the tasting room...coat hooks! (Which also conveniently double as purse hooks.) These unique coat hooks are made out of old railroad spikes from train tracks of the area. You can read more about railroad history in Dayton in our history section.

Winery Closed this Saturday - September 15, 2012
It is with deep regret that we must announce that our winery will not be open on Saturday, September 15th, 2012. We will all be attending a memorial service for Doug's brother & Ali's Uncle, Mark Harvey. Mark was instrumental in helping Doug & Jay build the winery, and assisted with every crush & bottling since we started in 2003. He will be sincerely missed.
